Gen-One Charlotte
GenOne Charlotte is a non-profit that works with first generation college students in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools to give talented low-income students a roadmap to and through college. Based on our coursework in COM 495, we have created communication proposals for this organization in 3 key areas: social media, donor relations, and human capital. We propose an increase in social media usage, particularly involving students as social media contributors to share testimonies and events. Additionally, we suggest a mircogiving campaign incorporated to their social media platforms and website to increase the donor base. Finally, to attract more volunteer mentors, we suggest targeting both retired teachers and current college students in the Charlotte area. Our case study has implications for non-profit organizations in the startup phase.
