Our interest in evolution is related to our desire to discover how humans came into existence. Exploring human origins drives many scientists to study evolution. Consequently, Yunis and Prakash studied the chromosome structures of humans and chimpanzees to answer the question: “Did both species evolved from a common ancestor?” Due to the DNA sequence similarity between human’s 2nd and chimpanzee’s 2a and 2b chromosomes, data support the fusion of ancestral 2a and 2b chromosomes formed human chromosome 2.
