Through the Fujita Arts Grant and the the Dean Rusk International Studies Program, I spent last summer at two artist residencies in Hrisey and Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland. While there, I met Icelandic locals who told me about their childhood adventures chasing rats out of the bird sanctuary. On the summer solstice, I hiked to the cliff’s edge and watched as the sun perused the midnight sky. I painted a mural at the that remains a part of the Stöðvarfjörður community. These are just a few of the many stories that I have from my time in Iceland. My time in the Icelandic countryside provided me with professional and cultural experiences that I will hold onto in my future artistic endeavors.
